About
Cliffe Knechtle
Cliffe Knechtle (born May 20, 1954 in New York City) is an American Christian pastor, author, and public apologist. He earned his undergraduate degree at Davidson College in North Carolina, and went on to study at Gordon–Conwell Theological Seminary (MDiv), graduating in 1979.
Shortly after seminary, Knechtle began ministry work with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and various churches across the United States. In the early 1980s, he started a distinctive form of outreach: open-air, dialog-style question-and-answer sessions on university campuses — discussing faith, ethics, philosophy, and the reasonableness of Christianity.
In 1991, these campus dialogues were formalized into a ministry named Give Me an Answer — a television and digital-media platform which brought his apologetic conversations to a broader audience.
In 2001 he founded Grace Community Church in New Canaan, Connecticut, and has served as its Senior Pastor since then. Alongside his pastoral duties, Knechtle continues to travel to universities, host public discussions, and produce content for his ministry — now reaching large online audiences via YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
Over the years, he has authored several books intended to address questions and objections to Christian faith. Off the pulpit and stage, Knechtle is married to his wife Sharon; they have three children.
