About

Greg Laurie

Greg Laurie (born December 10, 1952, in Long Beach, California) is an American evangelical pastor, author, and evangelist. Raised by a single mother who married seven times, Laurie spent part of his youth working as a newspaper delivery boy. He was not raised in a Christian household, but at age 17 — while attending Newport Harbor High School — he accepted Christianity, influenced by the ministry of evangelist Lonnie Frisbee during the cultural surge of the 1970s "Jesus Movement."

At age 19, under the oversight of the then-pastor Chuck Smith, Laurie began leading a small Bible-study group of about 30 people. That group eventually grew into what is now Harvest Christian Fellowship (HCF), founded in 1973 and headquartered in Riverside, California.

In 1990, Laurie launched Harvest Crusades — large-scale evangelistic events aimed at presenting the gospel to broad audiences. Over the decades, Harvest Crusades (in person and online) have drawn millions of participants.

Beyond his church and crusades, Laurie has penned more than 70 books, covering topics from Christian living to film-style faith testimonies. He also hosts a nationally syndicated radio program, A New Beginning, and a weekly television program Harvest + Greg Laurie.

In 2023, Laurie’s early life and conversion — along with his wife’s — were portrayed in the film Jesus Revolution, based on his autobiographical work.

Laurie is married to his wife Cathe (since 1974). They had two sons — one of whom, Christopher, died in a car accident in 2008 — and Laurie is a grandfather to several grandchildren.
