Orphaned at a young age, Rosa was 6 years old when she was brought from Russia to the United States by her adoptive parents to live in Upstate New York.
As a young kid, growing up with two brothers, Rosa tried the instruments that she saw her brothers playing.
5th Grade she began playing her first instrument, the trombone.
She occupied that position for 3 years until she decided to move on to more fascinating equipment that involved more than an arm extending back and forth for hours on end. The guitar and piano caught her eye, especially when she saw her brothers playing them.
After trying her hand at guitar she put that down and picked up the drums.
She took such a liking to them that she would spend hours during the summer practicing up in the corner of her family’s small stuffy attic, in hopes to one day becoming a “rock star”.
Finding a natural fit behind the drums she began playing out with her church band and later joined her school’s worship band.
Listening and learning from inspirational bands like RED, Flyleaf, and Nirvana she found her calling, and most definitely her first love.
As she grew older, the whole “rock star dream” turned into wanting to use her passion and gift of drumming for God. Attending a private school she became friends with Silversyde’s guitarist, Ali.
Knowing she was a drummer the band asked her to fill in at an out of town show that the bands current drummer couldn’t be at.
One practice later she filled in naturally at the show.
A year later the band had her in mind when they were auditioning a new drummer for the band and asked Rosa to try out. She auditioned for female fronted rock band Silversyde and landed the job.
Shortly after joining the band came her first major event with the band playing for 5,000 people in Rochester, NY at Winterfest 2011.
Within two months later she traveled to The Halo, in Windham, ME with the band to record their first full-length album in the studio with members of the band “The Wrecking” as their producers and Grammy Winning mastering engineer, Bob Ludwig.
At only sixteen years of age, Rosa began home schooling and set-out on the road – recording and touring nationally at some of the highest levels in the industry.
For several years she occupied that position.
During that time, she learned and grew as a musician.
She released her first full-length album (“Circus Circus” 2011) under Raging Storm Records. The album produced four top singles on The Billboard Christian Rock Charts.
As for Rosa Hodges Ortiz, in December of 2012, she resigned from her role with the band in order to move on to other opportunities and leave her own creative imprint in music.
She will forever remain passionate in her drumming career. She takes this time to focus on session drumming, fill ins, teaching her drum students, and continuing to serve in the CCM, rock, pop, and country music industry.
She has been playing drums for 18 years now and amazes many drummers and fans with her work. Impressing and inspiring musicians and audiences everywhere, Rosa fearlessly tackles the drums bringing a message of hope for those with physical disability and limitations, showing that you CAN play the hand you have been dealt in life with excellence, skill, strategy, and class.
What makes Rosa stand out the most as a drummer besides the obvious as a female drummer would be her creative spark- Always challenging herself and the musicians around her to step out into new waters and pay attention to the small details that go unnoticed.
Rosa is a team player, and she says “While playing cool fills are great and all, my focus is to always be the backbone to the musicians around me holding down the beat of a song to bring out the best in the song, not myself.” The rock industry will always be her favorite to be a part of but she loves branching out into funk, R&B, and jazz. She believes that Rock can be incorporated into almost any style and can change the whole trajectory of a song for the better.
Besides her drumming Rosa can be best described as an easy going, spontaneous, genuine, humorous, determined, very extroverted and slightly sarcastic human. She is accompanied by her husband Joel who is a Marine and Welder, as well as her son Zeke who she homeschools. Her family is her everything and they are always supporting her musical endeavors. She hopes that Zeke will take a liking to the drums as he gets older to carry on the legacy!

“Silversyde Featured on the cover of The Burgh and Countryman, interviewed by Jeremiah Papineau - with a half page dedicated to the band and their involvement with the Relay For Life in Plattsburgh, NY. -June 2011”

“I was blown away when I watched Silversyde take the stage, as they opened up for The City Harmonic and Everyday Sunday. The chick-fronted hard-rock band rocked the stage like there was no tomorrow, offering songs of hope and healing to their audience. Shortly following, the band released their debut full-length Circus Circus to Raging Storm Records. After reading Silversyde’s testimony of deliverance and restoration first-hand from the members themselves, the music and ministry of this energetic rock group is much more meaningful, making Circus Circus an outstanding and enjoyable listen! “Run to You” immediately catches the ear with explosive grunge guitars, extra bass, and steady drums. Lead singer Laura Jones holds out her vocals perfectly, making for an all together perfect track with a positive message of running to God for help in loneliness. The title track, a single that has already been making an impact at Christian Rock radio, follows wonderfully. And besides the excellent rock sound, comparable to that of Flyleaf (but with much better vocals, in my opinion), the lyrics are phenomenal: “The fool says in his own heart ‘I’m giving up and there is no God'/ All your life you’ve played that card in this circus, circus/ life is hard and there will be pain/ but nothing ventured is nothing gained/ never wanted to stay the same in this circus, circus now.” An upbeat instrumental with guitar screams between the chorus and bridge is one that will make the listener get up from their sit and move around, at work or not.” - See more at: www.jaysmusikblog.com
"They are Christian-based in their music and in their straight-edged lives. The band has released a CD called "Circus Circus" and hit the Billboard Christian charts. The title track is a whirling dervish of huge guitar lines over a relentless, pulsing rhythm section that singer Jones rides. The songs are well crafted, and have a lasting impact." www.timesunion.com/entertainment/article
