About
Tony Evans
Dr. Tony Evans (born September 10, 1949) is a prominent American evangelical pastor, author, speaker, and broadcaster. He founded Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (OCBF) in Dallas, Texas, in 1976, starting with just ten people in his home.
Under his leadership, OCBF grew into a megachurch with more than 10,000 congregants and over 100 distinct ministries.
Evans also founded The Urban Alternative, a national ministry focused on “kingdom agenda” teaching — the idea that God’s rule should influence every area of life (individual, family, church, society). He hosts a daily radio broadcast called The Alternative with Dr. Tony Evans, which airs on over 1,400 radio outlets globally.
He earned his Th.D. (Doctor of Theology) from Dallas Theological Seminary, becoming the first African American to graduate with a doctorate there.
He has authored over 125 books, Bible studies, and devotionals, including well-known titles like Kingdom Man, Kingdom Woman, and The Kingdom Agenda.
In June 2024, Evans stepped down from his role as senior pastor at OCBF, citing a “past sin” and entering a year-long restoration process. In October 2025, he was publicly restored to ministry, though the church announced he will not return to a formal leadership or staff position.
Evans is widely respected for his theological depth, biblical exposition, and commitment to discipleship. His ministry emphasizes both personal spiritual growth and practical social impact within communities.
